Tony Garifalakis has exhibited both nationally and internationally, with significant solo and group exhibitions at renowned venues such as the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the TarraWarra Museum of Art. His work spans a variety of media, including photography, painting, collage, and installation, and is characterized by a critical exploration of power structures, surveillance, and control.
Projects such as Mob Rule and Bloodline challenge conventional notions of authority and identity. Through the use of black spray paint to obscure portraits of European aristocracy and royalty, Garifalakis subverts these iconic images, removing the power they represent. His work often carries an implicit critique of societal hierarchies and the systems that govern our lives.
Garifalakis’ practice also engages with themes of social control and resistance, examining how art can act as a form of protest against prevailing power structures. His work prompts reflection on how surveillance, control, and societal norms impact both individuals and the collective.
His work has been exhibited through Stalke Gallery in Denmark, further contributing to his presence in the contemporary art scene.
