VU THI TRANG
(VIETNAM)
Vu Thi Trang’s work is deeply personal, direct, and rooted in simplicity, offering an authentic glimpse into the lives of Vietnamese women in contemporary society. Born after the Vietnam War, Trang represents a generation that defines modern Vietnam—a society in rapid development and far removed from the narratives tied to the war of over three decades ago.
Her art captures the essence of this transformation, providing a serious and empathetic perspective on the experiences and conditions of her generation. Trang’s approach is contemporary and documentary, with a focus on innovation and originality, unbound by traditional Vietnamese academic practices. This makes her a distinctive voice in Vietnamese art, offering a fresh perspective rarely seen outside Vietnam.
The catalog Vu Thi Trang: Everyday Life in Vietnam Today was published in conjunction with an exhibition at Stalke Galleri(2006) together with Jes Brinch. It features 40 pages of her paintings, accompanied by personal commentary and her life story, presented bilingually in Danish and English. Through this body of work, Trang invites viewers to connect with the vibrant yet often overlooked realities of life in modern Vietnam, bridging cultural understanding through her evocative and poignant art.
