BELLA ANGORA

BELLA ANGORA

(AUT)

Bella Angora is an artist whose work delves deeply into the interplay between emotion and intellect, emphasizing the complementarity of rationality and emotionality rather than positioning them as opposing forces. Her practice seeks to challenge the dominant narrative in contemporary society, where emotionality is often dismissed as indecisiveness and rationality is placed on a pedestal. By exploring the balance between heart and mind, Angora examines how this equilibrium influences personal decision-making, perceptions, and the collective dynamics of the world we live in.

Over the years, Angora has also engaged extensively with the concept of time in her projects, addressing themes such as transience, the fast pace of modern life, and their profound impact on individuals and society. Viewing these issues through a feminist lens, she critiques the patriarchal-hierarchical systems that she believes exacerbate the scarcity and acceleration of time.

Life itself, as Angora sees it, is a temporal process—marked by a beginning, a progression, and an inevitable end. Among the many facets of this temporal journey, she has chosen to focus on a unique stage of the ageing process: the female menopause. In her recent project, ME, MYSELF & TIME, exhibited at the MuseumsQuartier (MQ) in Vienna 2024, Angora explores menopause as a transformative phase in a woman’s life. It is a period that forces an intimate confrontation with ageing, finiteness, and a redefinition of self. As fertility wanes, women enter a new phase of life, one that calls for a fresh understanding of personal potential and societal roles.

Through this work, Angora raises poignant questions: How does a woman wish to experience the remaining years of her life? Where can she discover new forms of creativity and fertility? How does she redefine her place in society and the personal goals she still wishes to pursue? By tackling these questions, ME, MYSELF & TIME invites viewers to reflect on their own perceptions of ageing, transformation, and self-actualization.

Bella Angora’s multidisciplinary approach, combining mixed media and performance, underscores her commitment to addressing themes that resonate on both intellectual and emotional levels. Her work often blends visual art with music, a primary source of emotional expression, creating immersive experiences that engage the audience's senses and provoke meaningful introspection. Over the past two decades, Angora has presented her thought-provoking art at venues like Stalke Galleri and beyond, using her unique perspective to challenge societal norms and offer new insights into the human experience.
